Population Growth in Palm Beach County Means Skilled Work

Written by Labor4Hire | Aug 31, 2017 3:13:48 PM

Palm Beach County is hot. And we’re not just talking about the weather — though with 288 days of sunshine, and plenty of beaches on which to enjoy it, that’s not so bad either! Florida’s third most populous county is growing as people move to enjoy the weather, the culture, and the economy. The influx of new residents and the need for housing and infrastructure to support them has created a boom in construction jobs in West Palm Beach.

Between July 2015 and July 2016, 22,000 people made the move to Palm Beach County, bumping the population to 1,443,810. To put this into perspective, the county added more people in this time period than 39 states combined, and it did so faster.

Delray Beach Mayor Cary Glickstein says, “Simple math dictates net population growth is the economic lifeblood of any city, as it is a barometer of whether a town is moving in the right direction. Our growth is a positive reflection of discretionary choice: more people want to live and work here. Our challenge lies now in managing that growth….”

As one would expect, a significant factor of that challenge is housing and providing sufficient infrastructure. In fact, South Florida is initiating several large-scale projects, thanks to revenue from the county sales tax increase. The area plans to spend $2.7 billion countywide for new buildings and roads, as well as rebuilding existing structures and bridges.

This growth can be terrific news or an immense challenge, depending on which side of the fence you’re on.
